Nurturing Community and Excellence for More than 60 Years

Greenbrier school-wide morning meetingIn the heart of the Greenbrier neighborhood sits Greenbrier Elementary School, serving preschool through grade 4.  Greenbrier consistently performs at high levels, regularly receiving recognitions such as “Title I Distinguished School” and the Virginia Department of Education’s  “VIP Award of Excellence.”

Greenbrier Elementary is a caring school where “Everybody is Somebody.” Through our partnership with families and community, we are committed to a diverse educational program where everyone is loved, respected, valued, and encouraged to develop to their fullest potential. At Greenbrier, we are committed to building positive relationships with all students and families, meeting the individual needs of all students, and challenging all students to achieve. We will continue to work to develop a school climate of collaboration and shared voice amongst our staff, students, and families. Our school expectations for students are “Be Respectful, Be Responsible, and Be a Problem Solver.”

Greenbrier builds on its partnership with the City Schoolyard Garden, taking advantage not only of its school garden, but its courtyard, outdoor amphitheater, nearby trails, and a stream to bring science (and more) to life.  Our active PTO collectively supports our Reading Stars, too, through field trips, family events, and the annual Frog Jog.
